A good friend of mine sent me an article about a new type of emerging photography coming from mobile cameras. I'd been doing strange things with mine for a while, but the article really got me thinking and subsequently inspired.
I have an iPhone 3GS with a really crappy littie 3 megapixel camera in it. What dawned on me is now the really crappy little lens could go places a traditional DSLR wouldn't readily go. The processing software for IPhone/iPad has gotten incredibly much more diverse and sophisticaed since I started mucking about with crapcam images a few months back. I've been able to create a workflow where I can now get the mobile images - and they will all appear here as taken and processed by the iPhone, no PC/Photoshop manipulation (with the exception of resizing)- and place them here on Smugmug,
I think the same as the author of the article, this is a valid and exicting new photographic era, photography is now more accessible than ever before to everyone. Now everyone has a camera, everyone can be creative and shoot what they see, feel, or want to express. I'm certainly taken with the possibilites for my own work, and happy to be able to give these kind of images a serious space on the web other than my Facebook Mobile uploads.
A devilish little phoenix has risen from the ashes, and it looks like my iPhone crapcam! My lens can go now to absurd places, shoot absurd stuff at absurd angles, and then do absurd things in creatively manipulating the hell out of them, cause they are CRAPCAM images after all! I expect this will be the new repository for the return of the "Dark Visual Jokes" imagery I did early on.
A work in progress, and will be continually added to, please enjoy the fabulously nasty Iphone Crapcam Gallery! New Explorations into Questionable Taste and Crapcam Imagery.
